If you’re running (or trying to run) Google Gears under Mac OS X and persistently receive this message:
A Google Gears update has been downloaded.
Please close all browser windows to complete the upgrade process.
— It’s a problem with locks that never get unlocked. I’m not sure how this happens, but it’s easily fixed:
- Open a Finder window
- Navigate to your temporary folder:
- Press Command-Shift-G
- Type in
/private/var/folders
- Navigate through folders to find the
-Tmp-
folder. For me, this is located atLW/LWyYk1hzEbCzrBJpFMdhE++++TI/-Tmp-
within/private/var/folders
- Look for any files that look like
IsRunning{gears}
orIsRunning{gears}-##.##.##.##
- Delete those files
- Start/Restart your web browser, and all should be fixed
Thanks that was really helpful!
Why is it that every-time I reboot my Mac, in the trash in a folder called Recovered files, there are 2 files that look to be from Google Gears called: IsRunning{gears} IsRunning{gears}-0.5.29.0 I delete them everyday, but it is a pain.
Please help me out of this. what is the solution for that it wont appear again in Trash under Recovered Files.
Thank You.
